What we do

The Boards of Health on Martha’s Vineyard represent each of the six towns (Aquinnah, Chilmark, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Tisbury and West Tisbury). The Boards also lead a joint effort called the Inter-Island Public Health Excellence Collaborative, a project funded by the Massachusetts Department of Health to fortify local public health monitoring and delivery. Along with Island Health Care and the Town of Nantucket, the Collaborative hosts a Population Health Specialists, a Public Health Biologist, and a shared Health Inspector. The joint boards on Martha’s Vineyard also maintain a contract for public health nursing services.

Some of the public health issues most important the life of Islanders include safe and affordable housing, climate change, and mosquito/tick-borne illnesses. See the full eco-system of day-to-day Public Health on the Vineyard below.
